During the summer, Moran is the voice of children ranging in age from 8 to 12 at a summer rec camp.
"It's a blast to be able to stay young at heart and spend my summer leading children, playing games and going to the beach, all while getting paid," Moran said.
Now that spring semester is in full swing, Moran is back to leading, not just children but the UMaine student body.
"I am really excited about the opportunity to work for the students," Moran said. "Obviously it doesn't come under the best of circumstances."
Those circumstances being that UMaine's former Student Government President, William Pomerleau, resigned from office eight days after his re-election.
Pomerleau's resignation came after Senator Abtin Mehdizadegan circulated a petition which was signed by 503 members of the undergraduate student body. The petition cited 13 examples of "subversive conduct" regarding his duties as president. His resignation made Steven Moran, the former vice president of SG, the new president.
SG President is one of the many roles Moran has on campus. He is also president of the Speech and Debate team, treasurer of Senior Skulls and vice president of the Class of 2008.
Moran always knew he wanted to be involved in the leadership of SG but never thought the timetable would work out.
"I have full faith and confidence in President Moran as both a leader and an administrator. He truly represents the pinnacle of student leadership at the University of Maine," said James Lyons, SG Vice President.
Since Moran was Pomerleau's running mate, he plans to take the ideas Pomerleau had and mix in some of his own for a personal touch. Moran's biggest focus is to improve the public's image of SG. He wants to work to connect directly with the students so their voices can be heard.
"One of our major roles is to be the bridge between the students and the administration," Moran said.
In addition to improving the image of SG, Moran plans to work on a student lobbying day to allow students to meet their legislature and get more interested in what's going on. He will also be meeting with Bill Hockensmith of the UMaine bookstore. "I like the idea of tax-free textbooks," he said.
